To mark the CD release of Balkan Tales , five thoroughbred musicians perform musical narratives that captivate their listeners with their prodigious virtuosity, scorching pace, eastern European melancholy and almost boundless energy. Klezmer, gypsy and Balkan meet jazz and classical music; traditional folk music meets own compositions. Cultural curiosity, musical openness and a passionate exploratory urge drive them to let music evolve in dialogue between musicians from different cultures and regions. Thus they have played with and learned from Mongolian overtone group Börte, Uruguayan bandoneon master Raul Jaurena and African world musician Patrick Bebey. In their latest project Balkan Tales, they play with world-class accordionist Peter Stan. With his Serbian-Rumanian roots, growing up in Africa and moving to New York as a young man, his music combines the folk and gypsy music of the Balkans with the swing of New York. As a soloist and ensemble member of multiple klezmer and gypsy bands, he regularly tours throughout the world.
